How My Jeans Go So Well With My Snug Boots

posted on 18 October 2011

In regards to fashion, I love a casual look. When I wear a t-shirt it always has to match my shoes otherwise it would looks weird. For instance, if I wear a black shirt I would wear black shoes. It doesn't matter what color my jeans are, as jeans seem to go with any kinds of shoes and boots - even snug boots. I don't like baggy jeans because I think they look really silly. I think baggy jeans look like potato sacks. I like regular jeans. They are not skin tight like a girls jeans but they still show my shape. I never wear jeans that don't fit my waist. I wouldn't want them to always fall down when I am walking. I don't understand how people manage to wear jeans 3 sizes too big. It doesn't look very good to me. It makes a guy appear 20 pounds more heavy if wearing a pair of pants that is very baggy. I don't feel like it is stylish to wear a belt with your jeans. My reason is no one looks at belts they focus on the shirt and pants you wear. I believe one should dress to look good and also feel comfortable so they can move around freely. I feel fashion is dead without comfort because feeling good is what fashion is about.

Old Jeans are Turned into Custom Handbags

posted on 16 October 2011

My cousin is a very crafty person, and she began recycling her son’s jeans by whacking them apart and sewing them back together in the form of a handbag. I have a large collection of bags - from blue clutch bags to my big satchel I love so much, but never a denim bag like this - until she made one for me! She sews down the front zipper and closes up the leg holes and purchases handles at the craft store, which she attaches to the waistband by fabric hooks made from the legs of the jeans. She cuts out a lining from a coordinating color of fabric and inserts pockets for keys, coins, pens and cell phone. In terms of decoration, she sews buttons, appliques, and patches on the finished handbag, and then takes a colorful scarf or handmade tie and strings it through the belt loops. The resulting handbag is unique and a conversation piece. She has made two for me. One is classic blue denim and the other is made from a black corduroy pair of jeans. They are great for everyday use. Since she started making them as gifts, she has been asked if she would accept custom orders. She’s still thinking about that. So for now, I have a couple of her custom handbags, which are truly one-of-a-kind.

I'm Keen on These Purple Sandals

posted on 30 August 2011

The weather in Illinois this summer was in the unrelenting 90's, with suffocating humidity. My feet were hot, hot, hot. Whether I was walking outside or sitting in the office, I was overheated. I usually wear athletic shoes with socks because my feet need stability and support. I wanted sandals, but with my hectic schedule I didn’t have time to go shopping. So I stayed uncomfortable until my daughter sent me a gift of Keene Venice H2 sandals in Raya Purple. Wonderful! They fit perfectly, and were soooooo comfortable for walking, with lots of support for my poor feet. The soles of my Keen sandals are molded with arch supports and deep grooves on the bottom for traction. The sandal straps hold the sandals securely on my feet and provide great ventilation. My feet can breathe! My Keen sandals are easy on, easy off because they have bungee laces that fasten with a little clamp. No more frustration with floppy shoe laces that are always coming loose. They’re perfect to wear with jeans because the Raya Purple color is more blue-ish purple than actual purple. My Keene sandals are my favorite shoes!

Fashion Favourites: Plaid Ain't Bad

posted on 12 June 2011

When it comes to fashion and jewellery gift ideas, it's always difficult. If only everyone were like me thought, it would be easy! My favorite piece(s) of clothing in my closet are my long-sleeve plaid button-down shirts. I have an old one with dark and light blues, a yellow and black one, and one with reds, blues, and purplesamong others. These are used especially when I want to wear a tank top or t-shirt in the middle of fall or winter, so I can throw off a non-clashing plaid shirt to keep warm until I get inside to some heat. I also love to have them on camping trips or beach trips or college study sessions because they are generally comfy and stress-free. In a long-sleeve plaid shirt you just look chill and you don't have to sacrifice some splashes of color as well as comfort. This is one of the best inventions in fashion wear that I've come across. I prefer men's sizes, because they are more durable and looser but, they've been making some really adorable, female-body tailored plaid shirts (which I own a couple of as well). These are perfect for class, job interviews, theatre events, dates, and any number of casual/semi-casual events. I love my plaid button-downs and I'll keep adding to my collection for years to come.

Pearls Necklace

posted on 31 May 2011

If you just so happen to be a women who love the way that pearl necklaces look but have no idea how to pick and choose between the real and the fake, then you might want to learn a few things. Being able to tell between real and fake pearls isn't has hard as most people make it out to be. There are a few things you must remember when looking at a pearl necklace. First make sure that every single pearl is round, nothing must be deformed in any way. All real pearls have a round shape to them. Also make sure that the pearls on the pearls necklace has a high to medium luster to it. Fake pearls look much more dull than the real thing. Also they must have minimum surface spotting and the uniformity must be great. You can look at a pearl necklace and tell if it's the real deal or not. All you have to do is focus on the shine and your question will be answered.

Married After the Hurricane

posted on 21 May 2011

Me: We could get married at a drive-through wedding chapel in Vegas. Forget the bridal tiaras and cakes, let's just do it quickly and quietly. Grace: As long as you understand my mom will be in the back seat! Little did I know that this would have maybe been the better course of action. Talk about non-traditional! My girlfriend of several years and I decided the time had long since come to pull the trigger on getting married. We found a really nice little bed-and-breakfast down in Galveston and booked the wedding for an October Sunday. Anyone who lives around here will be pleased to tell you that October is the prettiest month of the year here, the only month where the weather is about always pleasant, either cool or warm. I joked as we were setting things up in June that if we didn’t have a hurricane, it would be a great time for a wedding, completely unaware that I seem to be clairvoyant about personal disaster. Three weeks before the go-date, Hurricane Ike ravaged the Texas Gulf Coast, and Galveston was hit hard on September 12, 2008. It was the worst hurricane to hit the Texas coast since Alicia, 25 years before. Once phone service was restored, we of course contacted the bed-and-breakfast to see if our wedding was still a go. Galveston was closed, and as it turned out, would be closed for weeks to follow, and the lady told us our wedding, on which we’d paid the deposits, was a no-can-do. She offered to refund our discount and the call ended, and then we fell to a great wailing and gnashing of teeth. We were welded to the date. Several extended family members had already purchased airplane tickets and booked lodging. So we had three weeks, roughly, to haul together the wedding in a new venue and pretty much do all the planning ourselves. Because my own schedule was far looser than Grace’s, what that meant was that I had three weeks to pull this rabbit out of my hat. We found a restaurant called Chabuca’s that had a big private dining room, and was more than happy to let us have the wedding there. The lady at the bed-and-breakfast was the very soul of help, pleased to pass on contact information for the baker and minister and other people we would need to pull this off. As it turned out, October 5, 2008 was indeed a drop-dead beautiful day, and it seems I have a talent for making the silk purse out of a sow’s ear. It was a wonderful wedding, attended by several friends and family. At this writing, in May of 2011, we remain happily married with an 18-month-old son. But it was decidedly a wedding to remember!
